Kagura Tonkatsu in Monterey Park is a hidden gem at its grand opening stage—not too crowded yet, which makes for a relaxed dining experience. The tonkatsu with curry is absolutely delicious: crispy on the outside, tender inside, and rich with flavor. If you’re in the mood for a satisfying comfort meal, it’s worth checking out before the secret gets out!

We ordered the takoyaki appetizer, pork cutlet fillet, spicy pork cutlet loin with curry, and the jidori chicken with cheese. All the sets come with a few small pieces of sides, soup, salad, and rice.
Everything was pretty good, and we finished it all.
The fillet cut was dark meat and more tender while the loin was white meat. I prefer the loin. The curry sauce was not thick and really just a sauce to dip in for us. The takoyaki pieces had a harder exterior and it was more hollow inside.

Was craving for some katsu so came to this newly opened katsu restaurant. They have limited amount of parking in their structure but you can park in the lots next to the plaza. Be prepared to wait in the sun if you come during lunch time. We came at 11:20am and got seated right away when they open at 11:30am. The place filled up fast. I had the pork katsu and thought it was good but nothing spectacular. The meat wasn’t dry but lacking flavor for me. Service was superb.

I loved Torrance location, and thrilled to try this place out! Taste was great as expected, and the crispness and tender meat! However, their the portion of side dish comes out with katsu was so tiny. I had to order takowasa for appetizers + side for this. Overall good experience though and will be back for second try.

Super freshly fried pork katsu! Delicious and the sides were great too. The dish was a bit on the pricey side at around $19 though.
