The Goldenrod, located downtown York Beach, Maine, has been delighting visitors since 1896 with its famous saltwater taffy. This beloved restaurant, soda fountain, and candy store uses a time-honored process to create its signature treats.
Taffy-making begins in copper kettles, where a blend of sugar, corn syrup, and butter is heated to perfection. Once cooled into sheets, the taffy is stretched and fluffed by mechanical pullers before being rolled, cut into bite-sized Kisses, and wrapped.
