Merengue Bakery & Cafe

My fave local #bakery - every confection we’ve tried has been pure deliciousness! Their Chocolate Parisian #cake used to be my fave - until I tried their #brownies today oommgg! It was rich, soft, and had a lovely layer of icing! Fantastic! They’re more than just a bakery - they have quite a large menu. Their cuban #sandwiches, soups, and coffees are also excellent! The location is in adorable Old Town Monrovia. The people-watching is excellent from their cozy window seating.

Merengue is always a sweet stop—known for their tempting bakery items, but don’t sleep on the food! This time I skipped the usual coffee and went for a refreshing raspberry iced matcha instead, which paired surprisingly well with a pastel de carne. A cozy spot that keeps winning me over, one bite (and sip) at a time. :)

Merengue has such wonderful treats and drinks! Excellent for a quick sweet fix. Make sure you try a slice of their signature Cuban cake — it has layers of guava and sweet cream cheese. If you really love guava, grab some Guava orientales. I also grabbed their signature Dulce de Leche Latte. They’ve also got plenty of chocolate options for the cocoa lovers — and tons of savory choices for a nice meal.

Bakery was bright, clean, with some nice Latin music playing in the background. Ordered kahlua cheesecake, it wasn't the greatest in my opinion not enough kahlua flavor throughout the cheese cake. It also had some kind of nut or coconut textured item mixed in with the kahlua that threw me off. The iced coffee was strong and delicious. The ladies who helped us were friendly and nice.

Great spot that caters to your sweet tooth. I love love that they have mini portions, mini eclair, mini fruit tarts and more! It’s great to be able to enjoy sweets without indulging. Variety is great! They also serve sandwiches, potato balls and savory bakery items. Worth the visit
